Age of Vice, by Deepti Kapoor, is a crime thriller and family saga of a criminal gang, political corruption, and excess of the wealthy in contemporary India. Characters include Sunny, the son of a mob boss; Ajay, an untouchable who becomes Sunny’s loyal servant; and Neda, a journalist. Story lines include Sunny’s alienation from and subordination to his violent family; Neda’s affair with Sunny; and Ajay’s attempt to find his mother and sister. There’s plenty of violence and plenty of vice. There’s a lot of action, but 350 pages (rather than 545) would have been enough. Kirkus Reviews calls it a bit long-winded but a lot of fun:
