After the Funeral and Other Stories by Tessa Hadley has received rave reviews by everyone for good reason. Hadley’s stories gracefully paint moment-by-moment judgments and likes/dislikes that generally don’t rise to consciousness into emotional narratives that, layered upon each other, create other narratives the reader, but not the character, sees.
