The Lincoln Highway is the latest novel by Amor Towles. Set in 1954, it’s the story of Emmett, who has just been released from a juvenile prison, his little brother Billy, and two of Emmett’s fellow prisoners, Duchess and Wooly, who are on the run from the law. Emmett’s father has just died, and Emmett and Billy plan to drive to California to find the mother who abandoned them, but Duchess and Wooly have plans of their own that require a visit to New York first. What ensues is a magical and poignant road trip involving poignant characters and surreal philosophical inquiries and revelations. It’s a wonderful tale with memorable characters. I highly recommend it. Here’s what Kirkus Reviews says:
