Time is a Mother, the second collection of poetry by critically-acclaimed writer Ocean Vuong, was an instant New York Times bestseller. Themes include his mother’s death, tenderness, and violence. It is more experimental than his first collection. Many of these poems have appeared in prestigious magazines such as The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, The Paris Review, and Poetry. Vuong has extraordinary talent and poets should read this just to see what he does and how. Others? It depends on what you like. This is not a happy book. Here’s what The Guardian says:
