Stealing is the latest novel by Lexington’s Margaret Verble. The narrator is a young Cherokee girl in the 50s who gets removed to a Christian boarding school. Verble wrote this book back before she became a famous Pulitzer Prize-finalist writer. There’s plot involving her father, family, and a interesting newcomer that moves in her Uncle John’s house. The title has multiple meanings. The voice of the narrator is absolutely wonderful. She describes the adult world around her better than the adults ever could. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
