The story opens on Camino Island as a hurricane is about to strike. Turns out hurricanes are not the only thing deadly on the island. Nelson Kirk, a lawyer-turned-thriller-writer, has been murdered. The question is why and the answer may lie in the novel he’s just finished. Reviewers unanimously see this novel as more like Grisham’s traditional legal thrillers, but without the lawyers The plot is full of whistleblowers, clandestine communications, and most of the action takes place outside Camino Island. There’s also a connection to Kentucky. Unlike Grisham’s last novel, there’s no romantic subplot.
