Glory, the second novel by NoViolet Bulawayo, is a political satire on autocracy and revolution set in a fictional African country Jidada that resembles Zimbabwe in the period between the 2017 military overthrow of its president, Robert Mugabe, and his death two years late. But in Jidadall, all the people are animals. The story is both particular and universal, as the author’s acknowledgement mentions “The Jidadas of the world, clamoring for the freedom on many fronts.” Glory was short-listed for the 2022 Booker Prize.
