Homegoing is a novella by Toni Ann Johnson, winner of the Accents Publishing  (here in Lexington) novella contest. The protagonist, recovering from a break-up, comes home for Christmas and grapples to come to terms with her mother and the racist town where she grew up as the only Black girl in her school. Reading it, I was struck by how well the dialogue would adapt to stage, so I wasn’t surprise to learn that the author also teaches screenwriting at USC. The tale is well-executed, enjoyable, and poignant. I highly recommend it. Here’s the summary on Accents Publishing’s website:
