Book Review, Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano https://mikewilsonwriter.com/2020/08/17/book-review-dear-edward-by-ann-napolitano/ https://mikewilsonwriter.com/2020/08/17/book-review-dear-edward-by-ann-napolitano/#respond Mon, 17 Aug 2020 22:22:00 +0000 https://mikewilsonwriter.com/?p=765 Dear Edward

Edward, the protagonist in Ann Napolitano’s novel Dear Edward, is a twelve-year-old boy who is the sole survivor of a plane crash. Among the 191 victims were his parents and fifteen-year-old brother. The novel has two story lines. One is organized around the crash and set in the airport and on the plane, through which learn the stories of Eddie’s family and a handful of the passengers. The other is the story of Edward (he stops going by Eddie, underlining how the crash has made him a different person) living with his aunt and uncle after the crash and struggling to understand who he is. The author develops the characters in both settings skillfully and ties the two stories together at the end. The quality of the writing is excellent and all the characters are interesting.
