Tishani Doshi is an award-winning author of eight books of fiction and poetry. A God at the Door is the title and a line from “Hope is the Thing,” one of the poems in her newest collection. The poetry is intelligent, sensitive, political, and personal. Many of the poems are feminist and some are in response specifically to events in her native India about which Americans are largely uninformed, but there are notes at the end to provide the context for such poems. I recommend this volume of poetry. There are plenty of American reviews praising this collection, but this one from The Hindu in India is, I think, more insightful:
