Fair Warning is the name of a fictitious shoestring Internet news site (as well as the title of Michael Connelly’s latest novel) where the protagonist, Jack, works as a reporter, exposing consumer fraud. It’s where he landed when the previous chapter in his life – tracking killers with his now ex-girlfriend, FBI agent Rachel – ended badly. Jack’s fate changes when he becomes a suspect in the investigation of murder, leading him to investigate that murder which, it turns out, may be one of several committed by the same killer. It also leads him back to Rachel, who he invites to team up with him. The plot is fast-paced, and other  characters include Jack’s editor, Myron, and Jack’s journalist sidekick, Emily. It’s a race to catch the killer, and the closer Jack and his friends get, the more dangerous it becomes for them. Connelly is royalty in the genre of police procedurals. He’s written thirty-three other novels, including the Lincoln Lawyer series and the Harry Bosch series, and routinely gets complements like “an insanely good book” from folks like Stephen King.
