Book Lovers is the latest novel by Emily Henry. Nora is a literary agent in New York City who has been disappointed in love repeatedly by men who drop her for a small-town girl in scenarios that come straight out of scenarios in Hallmark Channel movies. Her sister persuades her to take a vacation at Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, which happens to be the locale for a series of books by a successful author she agents. Her sister, even makes a list of romance tropes, a bucket list of sorts, that Nora must experience during the trip. Book Lovers is simultaneously a parody of romance novels and an extremely well-executed romance novel, with non-stop witty repartee and flirting that is miles ahead of any romance novels I’ve ever read (which, admittedly, aren’t many). If you like romance novels, you’ll like this one. If you’re a writer, you’ll want to read it to study how she pulls it off. Like I said, I’m not a romance novel fan, but I was in awe.
