Floaters is the title (and title poem) of Martin Espada’s latest collection of poetry and also a term used by Border Patrol for those who drown attempting to cross the Rio Grande to El Norte. The poems are primarily socio-political commentary but also include some personal poems dedicated to people whom the author loved who have passed.  Floaters won the National Book Award for poetry.
