The Blazing World, a New History of Revolutionary England, 1603-1689, may sound like a dull title, but this book by Jonathan Healey provides the real context for the American Revolution a century later. It’s amazing (to me, anyway) how many provisions in the Constitution can be traced back to the conflicts in England between the King and Parliament during this period. And the details Healey gives about both daily life and tumultuous political events brings it all to life. Here’s what The New York Times says:
